Zartman Construction

Zartman Construction, a full-service general contractor, has built hundreds of buildings in the central Susquehanna Valley. Founded in 1973 by Gene Zartman, the family-owned business, which concentrates on commercial, institutional and industrial building construction, has grown to one of the largest contracting firms in central Pennsylvania. Gene established a company policy to meet and exceed the customer’s expectations and gathered skilled people onto the team. That investment has paid off by having the best reputation in the Susquehanna Valley.

Their mission statement for over 40 years has stayed true — sometimes outpromised, never outperformed.

In 1975, Zartman Construction purchased it’s first crane (an eighteen ton hydraulic) for it’s own use and for rental to others, since then they have developed their rental fleet extensively.

Gene’s son David joined the business full-time in 1983 and took over as president of the company in 2006 after Gene’s retirement. In 2017, two of Gene’s grandchildren also joined the company.

Zartman Construction has won the Central Pennsylvania ABC Excellence in Construction Award five times, the ABC Excellence in Construction National Eagle Award in 2010 and the ABC Excellence in Construction National Pyramid Award in 2015. Zartman Construction has been named to the ACT Top 100 Crane Owning Companies in the United States five times. In 2015, David Zartman was named to Pennsylvania’s Business Central Top 100 People.

Chef Boyardee logo

Chef Boyardee

Few if any brands are as universally recognized and loved as Northumberland County’s own Chef Boyardee canned pastas.  Hector Boiardi’s Cleveland restaurant was so popular that he soon began bottling his pasta sauce and selling it with uncooked pasta to satisfy his customers’ love of his food.  Realizing the potential of this aspect of his business, Chef Boiardi and his two brothers teamed up to open the facility in Milton, PA that still bears their name. Well, the phonetic spelling of their name, that is! Nearly 90 years later, Chef Boyardee products are still being produced by Conagra Foods in Milton, PA.

Furmano's

Where there’s pasta there’s sauce, and where there’s sauce there are usually tomatoes, lots of tomatoes. Furmano's is a family-run business that dates its operation back to 1921.  The rich, fertile soil of the Susquehanna River Valley is perfect for growing tomatoes, and Furmano’s canned tomatoes and sauces are derived from the abundance of tomatoes grown and harvested annually in the valley. For over 95 years Furmano's has been a mainstay in Northumberland County, and continues to be one of the county’s largest employers.
